How To Connect To The Divine Through Meditation

ConnectThroughMeditation-ZARAThe Purpose of Meditation

The true purpose of meditation is to gain a conscious connection with the Divine.  The idea is that everyone came from the infinite initially, but through the hassles of daily living, we have gotten out of touch with our true souls.   Meditation is one of the ways you can get back in touch with your soul.  Through meditation, you can learn to directly experience not only your own individual soul, but also the Divine.

And why would you want to consciously connect with the Divine?

Because the Divine is the nearest of the near…the dearest of the dear.  The one who cares about you more than any other.  And when you gain that Divine connection through meditation, you will find that you feel happier than you ever felt before, and that your life begins to work better than ever before.

How is Meditation Good for Health?

In addition, Meditation is also good for your health.  It helps bring you into a state of calmness, and staying centered and calm can help both your emotions and your health in countless ways.

Getting ready to Meditate:

When you meditate, it’s important to find a quiet place where you can sit undisturbed.  It’s best to have a specific spot that you can use every day – one that is not frequently traveled through by yourself, room mates or family members.  This is because you want that spot to become spiritually charged, and the best way to create that is to designate a place to meditate that is used almost exclusively for that purpose.

You’ll want to find a comfortable chair with a somewhat cushioned seat, but not too soft.  You’ll want to sit on the chair–sitting forward so that your back does not meet the back of the chair.  You’ll want your feet flat on the floor, sitting with your back straight, and your hands upturned at the juncture between your thighs and abdomen.  If any of this is difficult for you, it’s okay.  You can relax some of the specifications if you want, but if you can do it in the way I suggest, it will be easier to get good results.

Say a prayer:

Speak from your heart.  With complete sincerity, tell the Divine that you love Him, and ask to know Him and to be united..  Or, if you see the Divine as feminine, tell Her that you love Her and that you want to be united…  Or, you could include both in your prayer, for instance, beginning the prayer with “Heavenly Father, Divine Mother…”  and tell them that you love them and wish to be united with them.

The first method of meditation I will share with you today…

Pay attention to your breath:

Notice your breathing as it flows in and out. Allow yourself to notice how calm, how good, and how safe you feel. The more you follow your breathing in this fashion, the safer and more relaxed you will feel.

Doing this will help prepare you for further methods of meditation, for example, the meditations that follow…

Here’s another method of meditation I’d like to share…

MeditationBreathing-ZARAAlternate nasal breathing:

Sitting in your meditation chair in the spot you’ve designated for meditation…

Put your index finger on your third eye, the point between your eyebrows, and gently press your thumb against your right nasal passage in order to temporarily close the passage.

Now, breathe in through your left nasal passage to a count of 4.

Now close both nasal passages and hold your breath in for a count of 4.

Now release your thumb from your right nasal passage, and, keeping your index finger on your third eye, breathe out for a count of 4.

Now breathe in through your right nasal passage to a count of 4.

Now cover both your nasal passages and hold to a count of 4.

Next, release your left nasal passage, and breathe out to a count of 4.

(And continuing the process…)

Breathe in though your left nasal passage for a count of 4.

Now cover both your nasal passages and hold to a count of 4.

Next, release your right nasal passage and breathe out to a count of 4.

Now breathe in through your right nasal passage to a count of 4.

Once again, cover both nasal passages to a count of 4.

Now release your left nasal passage and breathe out to a count of 4.

Continue to alternate nasal breaths till you have completed 6 full cycles.

Benefits of Alternate Nasal Breathing:

Alternate nasal breathing will help you to feel not only relaxed, but also mentally balanced.  During the process, you are using both sides of the brain, and this will help both sides of your brain to function better.  This will help you to feel more alert, grounded and balanced.

Meditation chanting OM and love:

MeditationChant-ZARABring your attention to the spot on your forehead between your eyes.  Gently bring your eyes up.  Do not strain.  Just bring your gaze up to that spot.

Do not force your breath at all.  Just let the air flow in when it is ready to do so, and inwardly chant “OM”, without moving your tongue, as the breath flows in.  When the breath is ready to flow out–as it does–without forcing it, inwardly chant “love”.  Then, when your breath flows in again, chant, “OM”, and as it flows out on its own accord, inwardly chant, “love”.

To your High Self, the words “Om”  and “love” will mean “I am in Spirit”, and “I am love”.  It also means “God is a part of me”.

Benefits of the “OM” and “love” meditation:

The words, “OM” and “love” produce a sacred vibration which have power in helping you connect with your own High Self and with the Divine.

When you get into a regular practice of daily meditation, your life will change for the better.  You’ll feel better about yourself, and better about your life.  It will be easier to focus.  Your health will improve.  And you’ll find yourself feeling more and more connected with Spirit–with the Divine.
